Suzanne Balharry

P1120953Suzanne Balharry has performed with English and French theater companies since 2002, including the Sun & Moon Theatre Company and the Troupe de La Grange de Dorigny. She obtained her Masters degree of Arts with a specialization in drama at the University of Lausanne in 2014 and attended for several years the theater and improvisation courses of the Théâtre 2.21 at the Espace Mont-Blanc. Alongside these courses, she followed acting workshops in Shakespeare’s Globe in London and an internship at the Manufacture theater school. Passionate in particular about clowning, she attended several workshops given by Marylène Rouiller at the Boîte-à-nez, Alexandra Gentile in Lausanne, and Bernard Stöckli at the Accademia Teatro Dimitri. She has also been involved in improvised musical comedy and joined Tempo, a show coached by Yvan Richardet.

She started directing with The Women by Clare Boothe Luce (2012) and Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie (2013). Her projects led her to create and act in many theaters, while she also worked as editing assistant for Theatre in Progress, wrote theater reviews for the Atelier Critique, and composed musical pieces for the stage which she performed with her duo Eris in Strings (2014-2016).

In 2017, she restarted English Theater in the EPFL with ET Cetera, the English Theater Company of the EPFL and the UNIL, and staged Proof by David Auburn (2018), Time and the Conways by J.B. Priestley (2019), and Lady Windermere’s Fan by Oscar Wilde (2020). Her theater projects are based on character building through voice and movement, using music and improvisation. They benefit from the support and impetus of Michel Sauser, director of the Theater 2.21, and Roelof Overmeer, founder of the Sun & Moon Theatre Company.

In 2020, Suzanne Balharry gave ET Cetera to Lili Solidaki who became the new director.

In 2021, Suzanne went on to co-direct Le Chemin des Passes Dangeureses by Michel Marc Bouchard and La Puce à l’oreille by Georges Feydeau (2021). She is the director of the Festival Les Estrades, a week of theater on the EPFL campus. She is currently starting her first creation, in collaboration with Colin Pahlish. Find out more on her website.
